- Apple expected *everyone* to want a PB 100, and many fewer to want PB140s
- and 170s. Turned out *everyone* bought 170s who could afford them, and
- most of the rest bought 140s. Apple is simply getting the 100 out of the
- way to make room for the new stuff coming out soon (when and what I would
- like to know!).
- The reason the waiting list is "4 to 5 weeks" is probably because Apple
- may have quitely discontinued the 100 and "4 to 5" means "never; won't be
- delivered". Computerland took my order for a PB100 4/40+floppy a week ago,
- but when I called them 23July, they said "Oh... it's dissappeared off our
- product lists". Your campus store may be quoting you that price because
- they don't have the 15 July price list, at least. Of course they're not
- trying to get anybody mad, but they do seem to be tripping over themselves
- moving these things.
- Does anyone have any idea if they're going to cut the price of the 140
- when the new models come in? I've heard from an unreliable source that
- the next machines will be around the 170 in performance (higher, probably),
- and that the price on the 170 would drop, but that the 140 would probably
- stay near it's present price. I'm trying to decide whether to hold out for
- that larger, heavier 140 rather than try to make do and buy a 100...
