- And another thing... [I hear that folks responded to my gripe about
- long lead times for monthlies like MacUser. Our inbound news feed is
- still messed up--long lead time--so I am typing a bit blind here.
- Sorry.]
-
- Yes, magazines are part of the publishing industry and these things
- take time.
-
- So do accurate weather predictions. The programs and supercomputers
- that crunch the weather data take time to crunch all they would like.
- The trick is to get them to spit out a reasonable prediction of the
- weather before it actually happens. Being told that last Saturday
- might be a good day for a picnic doesn't help me much.
-
- Same with articles on the computer industry. I would be willing to
- have slightly *less* good articles (like a less perfect weather
- prediction) if it means they can be timely (like hearing about the
- weather before it happens--there is *very* real valuable in
- timeliness).
-
- I am starting to think the not having any magazine publishing
- experiance would be a real competitive edge in this market, for the
- inexperianced wouldn't know that monthlies need to have 6-month lead
- times. I am sure there are very good reasons for these lead times, I
- just wish we could have kept them from the magazine publishers.
-
- Luckily there is an existance proof for short-lead-time publishing:
- Weeklies, even Dailies!
