- My $0.02: As a IIcx owner, I, too, have been looking at acceleration
- options. IMHO, the best option (available now) is to get a fast '030
- accelerator (40 to 50 MHz) and wait for a RISC based mac :-) before
- switching processor types (with their associated incompatibilities).
- MacUser recently reviewed accelerators; I believe they mentioned that
- one (if not more) was available which didn't use a NuBus slot by
- either using a PDS or cache slot, or else by replacing the processor
- on the motherboard. Unfortunately, since the IIcx has neither a PDS
- or cache slot, and since the chips on the IIcx are soldered to the
- motherboard, you have to send it to the manufacturer in order for them
- to desolder the processor chip from the motherboard, put a socket in
- its place, and plug in the accelerator. Unfortunately, I don't have
- the name of the company with me now; check the May or June issue of
- MacUser.
