- First of all, as you know to do your own memory will viod your warranty.
- With that out of the way, installing memory into a PowerBook is a breeze.
- I've done memory in a PB170 and 140. All you need are two Torx type drivers
- to remove the screws on the bottom (I thing 4 ot 5) and the one screw on the
- pannel where one would, or does have a modem. With that done _gently_ lift the
- back of the PowerBook, until you can see a ribbon cable (of about 8 wires).
- _*GENTLY*_ pull that cable from its socket, and remove the top of the computer.
-
- The memory card resides spproximately under the "Tab" key.
-
- The **Very First Thing To Do** is to ground yourself on some of the metal
- bracing on the inside of the machine. Then gently remove the RAM card, its about
- the size of 4 postage stamps. That is of course your PowerBook came with 4Mb of
- RAM. Then simply insert the new card into the connector, it can only go one way
- as I recall. Then simply put the machine back together in the reverse order that
- you took it apart.
-
- After all of this, the people that you buy your memory from will probably send
- you a manual showing how to install the memory yourself.
- If you have not already bought your memory, try to find a place that will give
- you a trade in for your now useless 2Mb card. Some still do I think.
- ****The following is not an indorsement****
- I think TechWorks will give you trade for your PowerBook 2Mb cards, and they
- send a very nice manual telling how to install the memory, and the tools with which
- to do so, which save a trip to Sears.
