- MacWeek this week (cover article) says 4D 3.0 and assorted other upgraded
- offerings from Acius will be shown in Boston at MacWorld Expo in the middle
- of August. Shipping isn't supposed to begin until sometime in September.
- $195 upgrade from 4D 2.2.x to 3.0. 4D Calc or Write (one, I forget which)
- is also going to be released in September. The dataserver also should ship
- in Sept, but pricing has not been set yet. The article does not state one
- way or the other if re-writing will be required for 2.2.x dbases to run under
- the dataserver. 4D 3.0 dbases are supposed to run under the dataserver with
- no problem. Run-time lisencing was not mentioned.
- Oops! The compiler 2.0 is alos supposed to be released in Sept. List
- continues at $1000. 4D 3.0 will list for $895, according to MacWeek.
- 4D 3.0 sounds really nifty, but a $195 a shot, plus an undetermined amount
- likely to be a couple grand, I don't forsee our site upgrading anytime
- real soon. Particularly if the upgrade will require extensive re-writes of
- existing code. We've got several years worth of new products in the pipe
- already, and re-writes would push those back a couple more years. Job
- security is great, but I do like to see the end of the tunnel every now and
- then... And some of these bugger took a couple years to finaly get right,
- and I'm not ready to tackle them again.
