- I've used both VersaTerm and PacerLink over localtalk to make tcp/ip
- connections. PacerLink at those speeds always seemed a bit slower, but
- I thought it was my imagination.
-
- Recently I tried VersaTerm over a slip link, and I was impressed.
- Considering it was a 2400 baud modem (MNP5) I could have several
- connections open at the same time. But, why, I thought, should I pay
- for VersaTerm if I can get a copy of PacerLink for free. We have a
- site license for it in our department. So, out with VT, in with
- PacerLink. All of a sudden, nothing moves. Just typing plain text, I
- can't go faster than maybe 10 words perminute or the connection starts
- to lose characters. The speed is attrocious! I know what you're
- saying... 2400 baud SLIP is silly. Well, I've had the new modem on
- order for 9 weeks now! But... *one* single telnet connection should
- work almost as fast as a plain serial connection... I'm slipping with
- a Xylogic Annex box, if that makes any difference, but the performance
- is completly unacceptable.
-
- What does PacerLink do that makes it perform so slowly?! NCSA Telnet
- works fast... uATerminal works well... just PacerLink twiddles it's
- (an my) thumbs.
-
- *confused*
