- The GNU philosophy is full of holes. I will point out a few. Consider
- who GNU's major supporters are: educational institutes and proprietary
- hardware developers. These people are not trying to make a living
- on software. The hardware vendors make a living by selling hardware.
- Hardware sells if there are applications able to run on it (which
- is why there are a lot more peecees that unix systems). Schools make
- a living by teaching. In both cases, software development is not
- mission critical, but more in the realm of being a hobby.
-
- Consider the GNU products: Have they put out any really new products?
- Or are almost all of their products of the sort "me too, with a twist".
-
- Look at the types of products that they have produced. How many of
- them are user oriented? User friendly? Things like spreadsheets,
- word processors, draw programs, paint programs, etc? Do they have
- anything like Adobe Photoshop for example? Compare GNU's products
- with those available on the Mac or peecee. Notice any (LARGE) holes
- in the GNU product line?
-
- How many of their applications would only appeal to programmers?
-
- How many software engineers are willing to devote a year or so to
- developing an application that they do not need, but someone else
- does, that someone else to make money off of it. How many are willing
- to do this, gratis? *I'm* not.
-
- >Programmers deserve to make a living, not a killing.
-
- I really cannot understand this attitude. Why are software engineers
- special in this case? Why shouldn't they be allowed to make money
- from their abilities? Why is it that the parasites of the world seem
- to think that there are classes of people who, instead of being rewarded
- for their abilities, should only be allowed to exist.
-
- Put simply, why should I bust my balls, use my brain, to make your
- life easier, when you are not willing to reciprocate?
