  11. I broke down and bought ClarisWorks on the recommendation of several net-
  12. readers (one of whom sold me his new copy at a discount!)  Anyway, I'm
  13. still exploring it but there's one thing that puzzled and startled me:

  15. when I brought in some Microsoft Word 3.02 files (CW is pretty good at
  16. importing and exporting to a lot of different file formats, BTW), it
  17. seemed to me that with the same margins set, CW was getting fewer words
  18. on each line.  I know the Word's display is not true WYSIWYG (the ruler
  19. is actually stretched a little), but this effect was noticible in the 
  20. final printout also.  I printed a few test documents from both applications,
  21. some with super-sized type, and discovered that _ the characters were
  22. actually different widths when printed from the two applications!_  
  23. The font characters printed out from CW are actually a bit wider than
  24. when printed from Word.  This kind of astounded me, I thought all Mac
  25. apps using the same fonts would pretty much always print the same.
  26. So . . . does anybody know, does Claris actually use a different print
  27. driver or something like that?  I thought something was fishy when I
  28. went to print from CW and the print dialog has the "Faster" option
  29. dimmed - you either print "Best" or "Draft".

  31. I guess this isn't a crime or anything, the print looks fine, I'm just
  32. curious about this . . .
