- I just got a Dell 325N notebook with an internal 24/96L fax modem. I've
- been having all sorts of problems with this unit ... when running on the
- batteries, it just seems to loose power at unpredictable times. When
- running Windows off AC power, usually during a cursor movement,
- the system freezes ... it needs to be reset with the power button.
-
- I cannot get the modem to answer the phone, either in data or fax mode.
- There are four of us here who have these systems, (just got them 2 weeks
- ago), and we're all having the same problems. Dell technical support
- told us they didn't know why the modems wouldn't receive faxes or
- answer the phone and they would "escalate" the problem.
-
- One strange thing I've noticed is that the modem can't operate in fax
- mode with the "smart CPU" power saving option turned on. I can almost
- convince myself this makes sense since the modem is a bus peripheral,
- but then why will it work in data mode? There doesn't appear to be any
- way to enable an answer mode, either for fax or data operation. Maybe
- they just sent the wrong software?
-
- Anyone else out there having this sort of trouble? Anyone know the
- magic incantation to make the modem work?
-
- thanks in advance,
-
