  16. Hi.  Two questions here, hope someone can shed some light.

  18. First question.  I just got a Dell 320N (20MHz 386SX notebook).  I had
  19. a few questions about the machine, so I called Dell.  While talking to 
  20. the technical person, I asked him about using SpinRite on the machine; 
  21. the question came up because the manual that came with the machine 
  22. specifically warns against doing a low-level format.  The technical 
  23. guy said No, do not use SpinRite; when I asked why, he said that is 
  24. because the Dell has an IDE HD, and "...the controller is on the
  25. hard drive".  Comments?  Experiences?  Advice?  I am tempted to just
  26. back up the machine and give it a try, if I can't get specific
  27. information.  Any chance of screwing things up by doing that?

  29. Second question.  I just tried to use SpinRite on a friend's old
  30. Sharp PC-7100 (8086 luggable running DOS 5.0).  SpinRite gets to
  31. the Welcome screen that says Press Any Key To Continue and crashes
  32. big time.  I've tried running it from a:, from c:, I have a clean
  33. boot diskette and there are no TSRs running.  Any idea what could
  34. be going wrong?
