- Hi. Two questions here, hope someone can shed some light.
-
- First question. I just got a Dell 320N (20MHz 386SX notebook). I had
- a few questions about the machine, so I called Dell. While talking to
- the technical person, I asked him about using SpinRite on the machine;
- the question came up because the manual that came with the machine
- specifically warns against doing a low-level format. The technical
- guy said No, do not use SpinRite; when I asked why, he said that is
- because the Dell has an IDE HD, and "...the controller is on the
- hard drive". Comments? Experiences? Advice? I am tempted to just
- back up the machine and give it a try, if I can't get specific
- information. Any chance of screwing things up by doing that?
-
- Second question. I just tried to use SpinRite on a friend's old
- Sharp PC-7100 (8086 luggable running DOS 5.0). SpinRite gets to
- the Welcome screen that says Press Any Key To Continue and crashes
- big time. I've tried running it from a:, from c:, I have a clean
- boot diskette and there are no TSRs running. Any idea what could
- be going wrong?
-
- Grateful for any and all advice,
