- Usually, 'IBM-type SIMMs' are not compatible with PS/2s. The SIMMs used
- in virtually all microchannel (Model 50, or greater) PS/2s are 72-pin
- SIMMS and are not generally compatible with 'IBM Compatible' machines. I
- have two Intel 4 Mb SIMMS (72-pin) on the mother board of my PS/2 Model
- 55sx and they work just great. I bought this machine shortly after the
- 55sx came out and have never heard of early models not being able to use
- 4 Mb SIMMS (as suggested in an earlier post). Some newer model PS/2s
- (56, 57, 90 and 95, at least) can use 8 Mb SIMMS.
-
- The ads in the back of most pc rags include SIMMS listed for different
- models of PS/2s (they are not all the same). Incidentally, some of the
- clones by Compaq, Hewlett-Packard and Zenith use this style of SIMM and
- I have been told that Next computers do, as well.
-
- More than likely, your non-IBM memory board uses the non-PS/2 compatible
- SIMMS.
-
- As for whether these modules are SIMMS... The boxes my Intel memory
- modules came in clearly refer to the contents as '72-pin SIMM' (and that
- is good enough for me).
