- Last week I was able to play around with a card called WinTV, which
- basically allows you to watch tv on your PC monitor. I will give my
- impressions on it and then I have some questions for anyone who has used this
- card or others like it (if there are any).
-
- The card can take input from cable, a vcr, etc. I think you can
- also hook up an antennae to it, but I'm not sure. I don't know if you
- you can redirect the sound to a stereo either. The television picture itself
- was very nice and clean. It didn't slow down the system at all and the system
- didn't effect the image refresh either.
-
- The tv window can be anything from a small window to the full screen.
- If you resized the window and the picture looks distorted (i.e. too wide or
- too tall) there is a menu choice which will automatically adjust the window to
- the closest size that will make the image look "normal". There are volume
- control buttons (and mute). A very nice feature is the ability to freeze an
- image on the screen and save it to a file (normally as a .BMP file). This
- image can now become your windows background or you can bring it into your
- favorite paint program and have some fun. There were a lot of other software
- features, but I didn't get to play with them.
-
- The card is priced around $350 (I think) and it includes the winTV
- software for Windows.
-
- Now, has anybody else used this card that has some comments on it?
- I admit I only played around with it for a few minutes so I didn't get to test
- a lot of the features it had.
-
- Are there any other cards out there that can display TV or VCR
- signals on a PC (i.e. VideoBlaster?)?
-
- Is there going to be a better/newer version out anytime soon?
-
- thanks,
- Rob
