- The above contains a grain of truth. A lot of vendors decided that Windows is
- wonderful and they have written drivers for it. OS/2 v2 was not expected to
- sell many copies. Over 1.2 million in 12 weeks isn't bad, so now there is a
- bit of a scramble on by the more astute of the johnny-come-latelys to get
- drivers ready.
-
- Take video cards. Cards supporting 8514/a mode are fine. Trident cards are
- just fine, too. Trident had drivers ready for OS/2 v2 months be fore it came
- out. I use 800x600x256 because the 1024x768x256 drivers make the icons too
- small on my 14" monitor.
-
- The soundblaster seems to work ok.......
-
- Two areas that DO need work - and are getting it: Tape backup units - the main
- companies didn't write drivers for OS/2. Now they are going to, but for next
- year. Smaller companies - seeing a big opening left by the majors - are
- burning the midnight oil preparing compatible drivers for many products.
-
- I used Windows for a year. I is better than DOS (doesn't take much). But OS/2
- makes Windows look a bit "shallow".
-
- As for the OS/2 interface being "totally inconsistent and making no
- sense"........well, you lost me. It is the best interface the x86 world has
- seen to date. It is flexible, configurable - yet simple: see the little
- pictures? Just click on them and the go! I don't know what is inconsistent
- about that!
