- =>Naeser's Law:
- => You can make it foolproof, but you can't make it
-
- If I am not mistaken, Maxtor introduced this drive not too long ago.
- It is slightly slower than the 213A (16ms vs. 15ms) and the data transfer rate
- is also less for the newer drive.
-
- Reason for the lower cost...OEM/dealer price was originally $399 (probably
- lower by now!) due to the fact that the 7213A and 7213S use existing technology
- and fewer parts from the Maxtor Cheyenne (sp?) series like the 7120A.
-
- Maxtor has a good reputation for quality drives, so if you do not mind the 16ms
- access time and lower transfer rate then go ahead.
-
- One thing to keep in mind is that Maxtor has a LOW-LEVEL format program for the
- 213A (just in case it is needed)...When I talked to Maxtor a while back about
- the 7120a (the 7 refers to the Cheyenne series) They did not have a low level
- format program available for that specific drive...they might have one out for
- the 7213A. I am not sure if Disk Manager >5.0 can handle the 7213A.
-
- If you have any questions call the 800 Maxtor tech support line...sorry I do
- not have it handy.
-
- Good luck in your search,
- Santosh
-
- Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with Maxtor, the above opinions are my own.
