- Well, I received my SpeedSTAR 24X today. I will give a mini-review at this
- time(only had it about 3 hours).
-
- I have it installed in a '386DX-25MZ machine with 4meg ram and am using a
- NEC Multisync monitor with it. Because of the monitor, I have to use the
- following modes:
-
- 640x480 60HZ NI
- 800x600 56HZ NI
- 1024x768 43HZ I
-
- I don't have drivers that will work with the 1024x768x256 color mode with
- VPIC but the 800x600x256 mode worked with the WD9030 driver.
-
- I have installed the 800x600x256 and 1024x768x256 windows drivers and it is
- very fast when using these drivers. I got a 5.50 overall WINTach rating with
- the 1024x768x256 drivers. Unfortunately, the 16 color drivers are not the
- WINSpeed drivers so the 16 color modes are considerably slower than the 256
- color modes.
-
- The board supports a wide range of horizontal/vertical freqs in the different
- modes. Here is a sampling:
-
- 256 Color modes:
-
- 640x480
-
- Horiz Vert NI/I
-
- 31.5 70 NI
- 31.5 60 NI
- 37.8 72 NI
-
- 800x600
-
- 35.1 56 NI
- 37.8 60 NI
- 48.1 72 NI
-
- 1024x768
-
- 35.5 43 I
- 48.3 60 NI
- 56.5 70 NI
- 58.1 72 NI
-
-
- 32,768 COLOR
-
- 640x480
-
- 31.5 60 NI
- 37.8 72 NI
-
- 800x600
-
- 35.1 56 NI
- 37.8 60 NI
-
- 16.7 MILLION COLOR
-
- 640x480
-
- 31.5 60 NI
-
- It also has 1280x960x16 and 1280x1024x16 modes that use 49 KHZ horiz and 43HZ
- vertical interlaced modes.
-
-
- I am very pleased with the performance so far. Now if I can just get that
- 17" monitor...
