- The February '92 issue of PC Sources lists the features of over 60 IDE
- hard drives, including the two you have mentioned. According to the magazine,
- the Seagate ST-1144A has an average seek time of 19ms whereas the Maxtor
- Cheyenne 7120A tested in at 15ms. This is mostly due to the Maxtor's
- 64K look-ahead cache versus the Seagate's 8/32K cache. Both have a max
- data transfer rate of 1.5MB/second. Both sell for around 350 dollars.
- (HD Computer is selling them for $330)
-
- PC Sources labels the Maxtor Cheyenne a best buy becuase of the price,
- speed and manuals. Seagate manuals tend to be sparse.
-
- My opinion after reading the article would be to go with Maxtor. My
- sister plans to buy the Cheyenne 7120A soon and I'm in charge of installation.
- I want manuals that will help!
