- I used to work for a major BIOS company. I am posting this info to help those
- who don't understandy why a BIOS beeps that way.

- BIOS vendors try to develop product that can't easily be pirated. With all th
- chipsets on the market, it would seem unlikely that one manufacturer's BIOS
- could possibly work on another board. Sometimes they do.

- We put checksums in the BIOS firmware to prevent easy changes to the copyright
- message, the manufacturer's signon, and so forth. So if a motherboard company
- pirates a BIOS from another manufacturer, they'll have to spend a while wiping
- out all visible (and invisible) copyright and ID information to prevent the
- "BIOS police" from IDing where it came from or if it's legit or not.

- Too bad it's only software -- it's not a foolproof method, but it weeds out
- the simple tinkerers.
