- I'm kinda new to MS-DOS systems, so I could just be making a
- stupid mistake, but here goes...
-
- A friend of mine is trying to get her modem to work on an old
- 286/8. The modem works okay on my computer (a 486/33), so I
- think the modem itself is okay. Using the shareware version
- of Procomm, and her computer, strange things happen. THe modem
- does not give a response to any commands (i.e. no OK after an
- AT command), and no CONNECT or NO CARRIER, etc. replies, BUT
- it does respond to the commands. I mean, if you type ATDT5551212,
- you can hear the modem dialing, but it will not respond with
- either a CONNECT or NO CARRIER. Yes, the modem is hayes comp.
- and I already checked for conflicting IRQ and com ports (It is
- on COM2 due to a mouse on com1.) I have no idea what to try
- next, so any help would certainly be appreciated!!! Thanks
- a lot in advance... :)

- P.S. I forgot to say, the modem will connect, although with
- no message, but you will receive nothing. It is as if the host
- is dead (that's what I thought at first), but actually (I believe),
- the host is sending information, but the modem will not relay the
- data to the computer! Thanks again!!
