  13. I'm kinda new to MS-DOS systems, so I could just be making a 
  14. stupid mistake, but here goes...

  16. A friend of mine is trying to get her modem to work on an old
  17. 286/8.  The modem works okay on my computer (a 486/33), so I
  18. think the modem itself is okay.  Using the shareware version
  19. of Procomm, and her computer, strange things happen.  THe modem
  20. does not give a response to any commands (i.e. no OK after an
  21. AT command), and no CONNECT or NO CARRIER, etc. replies, BUT
  22. it does respond to the commands.  I mean, if you type ATDT5551212,
  23. you can hear the modem dialing, but it will  not respond with
  24. either a CONNECT or NO CARRIER.  Yes, the modem is hayes comp.
  25. and I already checked for conflicting IRQ and com ports (It is
  26. on COM2 due to a mouse on com1.)  I have no idea what to try
  27. next, so any help would certainly be appreciated!!! Thanks

  33. P.S. I forgot to say, the modem will connect, although with
  34. no message, but you will receive nothing.  It is as if the host
  35. is dead (that's what I thought at first), but actually (I believe),
  36. the host is sending information, but the modem will not relay the
  37. data to the computer! Thanks again!!
