- I'm playing S201 and am experiencing similar problems. Configuration:
- 486-33 ISA clone, SoundBlaster 1.5, Roland MT-32. The game just locks up
- from time to time with no apparent reason, sometimes even in the opening
- screen. The only case I could reproduce is when you walk up to the Alchemy
- Lab while some class is being held (but not yours), then a nymphs kicks you
- out and the game locks up.
- And music on the Roland is always erratic: sometimes it stops in the middle
- of a tune, i.e. goes silent, sometimes it keeps blaring the tone it was just
- playing (circumvention: type BIP, then it plays the new tune), sometimes a
- tune or the Bongs don't come at all.
-
- I found no real fix for all that. I use to take notes in my favorite text
- editor (SPF/2) while playing this sort of game, so I first tried to play
- S201 under Windows 3.1, but this didn't work, I forgot why. Now I'm playing
- it under DesqView, which works fine (except that DesqView messes the colors
- up when I switch tasks, but this can be fixed with an F6 - F5 sequence,
- which restores the colors from CGA to VGA) and has the additional
- advantage that some of the lockups can be fixed by closing the S201 window.
- You then must reload S201, but at least it prevents an IPL (sorry,
- mainframe jargon again) and the accompanying data loss in the editor.
-
- Oh yes, I got carried away, the question concerned the Bongs: No, I didn't
- experience lockups during Bongs more often than else. Try to avoid the
- vicinity of the clock tower during full hours, then you don't hear the
- Bongs. Ok, I know, I know...
-
- Sorry I can't really help
