  22. I use rechargeables for my HP48SX because
  23. 1) I use recargable AAA batteries for not just my HP, but also for
  24. other gadgets (like fx. a programmable remote controller). So I have 
  25. them at home anyway. Same for the charger.

  27. 2) The dutch consumer magazine advises to use NiCad rechargeable
  28. batteries because they are less polluting CONSIDERING THEIR LIFETIME,
  29. compared with alkaline batteries.  It is better to use NiCad batteries
  30. for 10 years, than alkaline batteries for 10 years.

  32. 3) It is plain cheaper. Saying you'll spend more on dougnuts (more
  33. probably ``drop'', ``kroketten'', ``frikandellen'' or ``patat'' for
  34. Jan Modaal (Joe Average) in the Netherlands) does not help. With the
  35. same reasoning, I could quit turning off lights in the home when I leave
  36. a room, choose a 'normal' dish-washer compared with a reduced water 
  37. dish-washer etc. etc.

  39. Summarizing: I've been using NiCads for my HP48SX for 2 years now, it
  40. works great for me, I save some money and I pollute just a bit less than
  41. I would using alkaline batteries.

  44. ps: I do have a back-up set of batteries when the NiCad's are drained.
