- Hello there HP netters!
-
- I'm a new and proud ownwer of an HP 720 workstation and matching Xterminal
- server. I'm also a complete babe in the woods with system management,
- and so there's a lot to learn. Basically the machine should be set up in a
- very simple way, without a lot of fanciness, as we will primarily use it
- for number crunching. On the other hand, we'll also use it for image
- display in very simple ways. I'm an astronomer who needs to do a few
- simple tasks with images: namely to display greyscale and false color
- images of our 2-d intensity maps. The images are stroed in our own
- local format, but I can convert them to whatever format (gif, tiff,
- bitmap, etc) is appropriate.
-
- Does anyone out there have a recommnendation for a good, simple way to
- get a picture on the screen? We really don't need anything fancy, just
- to see our 128x128 or 256x256 pixel images displayed on the screen
- (large enough to see clearly) with a simple choice of color palette
- and (hopefully, but not necessarily) cursor movement to give
- positions/and or pixel values.
-
- Any help or hints, even suggestions of where to look for such code would be
- greatly appreciated. Make a few astronomers jump for joy!
-
- Thanks,
-
