- Oh no not again !
- Having been sold a 750 on the basis that 8.07 supports (but is not
- supported) Exabytes. We are somewhat miffed to find that it doesn't
- appear to.
- Having just trawled the archives to find out the definitive situation,
- I find there doesn't appear to be one. Is there anyone in HP who is
- prepared to make a statement on this ?
- Ok, I know HP thinks DAT is wonderful and just what everyone should be
- using, but they should realise that EXABYTE got there first and is
- a de-facto standard in many areas. We have to provide an import/export
- service for data on Exabytes, and when moving to the new system, this
- was part of the requirement. In the end it looks like we should have
- gone elsewhere (ie to anyone but HP). Unless this situation is
- resolved, I can't see us considering HP again.
- As I understand it, the current situation is as follows ...
- The DAT driver supplied with 8.07 sort of supports exabyte. However,
- it won't work with tar correctly and there is some sort of compatibility
- problems with later versions of Exabyte firmware. There have been rumours
- of a separate Exabyte driver provided with 8.07 but have not been able
- to confirm these.
- I presume that Omniback (which supports Exabyte) doesn't exercise the
- parts of the driver that tar does.
- There is apparently a fixed version for 9.0. Is this a fixed version of
- the DAT driver, or a separate driver. Will it be available in advance
- of 9.0 (and work with 8.07) and will it be supported ???
- Cheers,
- Mark
