  13. I've found out the hard way that the supposedly Centronics-compatible
  14. parallel port on HP models 362 & 382 (and probably the rest of the
  15. Series 300/400 line) is not compatible with some printers which work
  16. just fine with PCs.

  18. I don't know how widespread the problem is, but I do know that it didn't
  19. work with the first two non-HP printers I tried (Epson LQ-800 and an Okidata
  20. model); not exactly a good omen.  (It *did* work with a LaserJet and another
  21. Epson model, so I don't think I have broken hardware or software.)  As best
  22. I can tell, the parallel port hardware insists on seeing BUSY go true before
  23. it will complete the data handshake, while these PC printers think that they
  24. don't have to pulse BUSY if they can take another character right away.

  26. If anyone has more information on this --- for instance, a list of just
  27. which printers will and won't work --- please clue me in.
