- I've found out the hard way that the supposedly Centronics-compatible
- parallel port on HP models 362 & 382 (and probably the rest of the
- Series 300/400 line) is not compatible with some printers which work
- just fine with PCs.
-
- I don't know how widespread the problem is, but I do know that it didn't
- work with the first two non-HP printers I tried (Epson LQ-800 and an Okidata
- model); not exactly a good omen. (It *did* work with a LaserJet and another
- Epson model, so I don't think I have broken hardware or software.) As best
- I can tell, the parallel port hardware insists on seeing BUSY go true before
- it will complete the data handshake, while these PC printers think that they
- don't have to pulse BUSY if they can take another character right away.
-
- If anyone has more information on this --- for instance, a list of just
- which printers will and won't work --- please clue me in.
