- We have an HP730 which mounts the whole of our Apollo ring onto /apollo.
- We have about 50 Apollos.
-
- Basically it mounts apollo1:// onto /apollo
-
- so that in /apollo you get apollo1, apollo2, apollo3 etc etc for each
- Apollo on the Apollo network.
-
- All of our Apollos have a /user directory which contains nothing but
- symbolic links to users home directories which could be on any Apollo.
-
- So, for example //apollo1/user/pearmana may be a symbolic link
- to //apollo2/local_user/pearmana
-
- Now, when logged onto an Apollo, if I :
-
- cd /user
- ls
-
- the files (or links in this case) are listed very quickly.
-
-
- When I am logged into the HP730 and do :
-
- cd /apollo/apollo1/user
- ls
-
- it takes an age before listing the files out as if it is chasing
- all the soft links through to every Apollo referenced.
- It must be doing something like this cos when I reduce the number
- of links in the Apollo's /user directory from 100+ to just a couple,
- the problem goes away and ls works very quick.
-
- Why does it need to chase links ?
- Shouldn't it just list the directory, and only chase a link if you
- specifically follow it through ?
