- Based on my employment there is an obvious bias to this response,
- so I'll limit my comments to SoftPC rather than promoting the
- purchase of our wonderful, fantastic HP system over the competition.
-
- SoftPC 3.0 emulates a 286 with VGA resolution. I've run
- various MS-Windows 3.0 applications including Word for Windows,
- Project for Windows and Excel satisfactorily, but not with the
- speed of the 25MHZ 386 at my "other" desk.
-
- My personal feeling is that SoftPC is very useful if the HP-UX
- workstation and HP-UX apps are your primary environment, but PC
- tools are required for a few tasks here & there. Buying the
- Series 700 in order to run PC apps through SoftPC as a primary
- environment is probably not the best value you could find.
-
- We've begun the process of weaning people from DOS and Windows
- based aps and migrating to some highly functional packages
- running under HP-UX including:
-
- - CorelDraw
- - Framemaker
- - Island Write, Draw & Paint
-
- Most users that have tried the aps running under HP-UX don't
- ever want to see a PC again.
