- First off, I've never managed to get those to work by hand -- which
- is a pain, because I've written a shell script to configure just
- about everything else on a machine fresh-out-of-the-box. Sigh. You
- just have to use SAM.
-
- On a related note, though: has anyone managed to get a LaserJet III
- (with or without PostScript) to work on a Parallel port on a 400 (or
- even a 700)?
-
- I've checked /etc/dmesg for the select code (12), and I've used SAM
- to rebuild my kernel with the Parallel device driver. Then rebooted.
- It seems to me that the minor device number that SAM creates for the
- device is completely random (and non-deterministic).
-
- Again, the complaint that it can't write to /dev/null. Also, when
- I try to cat directly to the device file, I get "No such device".
-
- Nice, eh?
-
- Perhaps I'll just try to get an Ethernet card for my LaserJet and
- speak LPD or Appletalk to it (see a later posting).
