- Yes, it seems to work, with the exception of tar. I've tried an older 8200
- with a 710 running 8.07.
-
- This came up a couple of months ago, so you might try to dig up some old articles.
- Anyway, you set up the device files as if it were a DDS drive, and use it with
- the usual tape commands. Backup and restore seemed to work fine, as did dd and
- cpio and mt.
-
- Tar, however, does not work quite right. It appears to write archives, but
- indexing them and extracting them is buggy. I believe it was Michael Lampi
- (credit where it's due)
- who identified the problem with tar as being a bogus attempt to write a filemark
- after reading. I've been meaning to build gnutar to see if it has the same
- problem, but I haven't had a chance.
-
- You probably realize that this is unsupported, so your mileage may vary and
- HP doesn't care if it does. 8-)
