  22.   I forwarded your comments to the US DECUS BPSSG Chair, Bill Mayhew. He
  23. asked me to post the comments below, as he doesn't have direct access to
  24. this newsgroup:

  26. I don't believe _any_ Alpha systems will be shipping to end-user customers 
  27. before September 30.  Formal announcement of the products has not happened, 
  28. and formal shipping dates have not been announced.  They are being made 
  29. available to key independent software vendors.  Heck, the final name of the 
  30. product isn't even announced yet.

  32. We'll do some checking with The Powers That Be to confirm this, but I would 
  33. operate under the assumption that an Alpha is not going to be available in 
  34. the time frame in which you need it.

  36. HOWEVER, you *CAN* buy a DECstation or VAXstation workstation today, with a
  37. not-to-exceed-$X upgrade option to an Alpha.  This program, which 
  38. originally expired June 30, has been extended through December 31, although 
  39. I don't know if the $X is the same or not.  Ask your Digital sales contact 
  40. about this alternative.  I don't know if you can, or want to, pay the $X 
  41. before the end of September.  The last information I had indicated that 
  42. these upgrades weren't going to ship until next summer at the earliest.
