- Wow, the possibilities are endless, is your account balance unlimited?
- I assume you want a "workstation" rather than a "server".
-
- System: DECstation 5000/240
- Graphics board: TurboPXG+
- Memory: At least 32MB, 128MB preferred, but can go up to 480MB
- Disk: At least 1GB (from DEC or 3rd party)
- Peripherals: DAT or Exabyte, CDROM, Optical disk (from DEC or 3rd party)
- Option: Turbochannel expansion box with an extra SCSI card, a
- video, sound or any other Turbochannel option.
- Also get a Prestoserve board.
- Software: Most DEC software is free to universities. If you want to make
- use of the PXG board, get AVS which is not free. Also C++ is not free
- Subscribe to the CDROM consolidated software distribution service :-)
-
- Upgrade: Get a guaranteed upgrade price to Alpha and keep some of the
- money to pay for this at the end of the year.
