- Hey, all you hardware gurus out there, I seem to have a problem.
- Every so often my C-64 seems to do a spontaneous RUNSTOP/RESTORE, as
- in:
-
- Speedscript -- asks if I want to exit SpeedScript (normally
- triggered by pressing <Restore>
-
- Kermit -- exits to the BASIC prompt, as in when you do a "warm boot"
- with RUNSTOP/RESTORE.
-
- Wouldn't be so bad, but on bad days it can occur every few minutes
- and my significant other (who forgets that you can RUN back into
- SpeedScript and keep your document) has lost documents and is
- threatening to go back to the manual typewriter. (For some reason
- my suggestion to buy a 486 machine didn't go over real well...
- something about mortgage payments and food.)
-
- I've tried swapping power supplies; doesn't help (although it does
- seem to reduce the frequency a bit). I've also swapped the two 6526
- chips around in case the keyboard handler was freaked out. (No
- luck.) I've also reseated most of the socketed chips (this is a 64
- with Revision A ROMS, guys. . .it's OLD).
-
- According to the tech ref manual, RESTORE does an NMI, and
- one of the 6526 chips is connected to that line as well as a line in
- the expansion connector (but there's nothing in my cartridge slot).
- So conceivably BOTH 6526s or the 6510 or one of the little buffer
- chips that connects NMI to the RESTORE key could be fritzy. The
- crazy part is, sometimes it works fine and sometimes it resets every
- minute. Has anybody seen anything like this? Can you suggest
- anything else to try (other than "Get a new computer?")
-
- Thanks in advance,
-
