- In a word: Bullsh*t. I've had this 1040ST for seven years now. I leave
- the same disk in the drive all the time; it's almost never accessed. I rarely
- power down at all, but when I do, I do it with the disk in the drive.

- I've never ever had a problem I can attribute to either of these habits.
- I do, however, thoroughly clean the machine inside and out twice a year.
