- The June issue of ST Format (UK) had an article on memory upgrades. I
- am interested in expanding my 1040ST to 4 meg so I read it. Most of
- the upgrade boards discussed were restricted for use with square MMUs.
- My ST has the rectangular MMU. I read in the Toad Computer catalog
- that some MMUs will not work with more than 1 meg. Are these
- rectangular chips those MMUs? I noticed that near the MMU there are
- pads marked 256K and 1M where the 256K pads are bridged by a blob of
- solder. Does this have anything to do with the MMU configuration?
-
- Another thing caught my eye in the ST Format article. It showed the
- different ST mother boards that have been used. The one corresponding
- to my ST motherboard noted space on the board for the blitter chip. I
- had noticed that space and wondered what chip it was for. I assume
- that I can easily add a blitter chip to my ST. Are blitter chips
- readily available? Should it be socketed? What kind of socket would
- I use? Here too I noticed pads bridged by a blob of solder where the
- traces lead to the pins of the (missing) blitter chip. Does that
- affect blitter operation?
-
- Thanks in advance for your response.
