- A quick guess - you have an AUTO program and/or desk accessory which is either
- corrupted or won't work on your ST. Typical programs which can cause the
- activity you see include: monochrome emulators, STe-specific AUTO programs
- or desk accessories run on an ST (and, sometimes, vice versa), and screen
- accelerators run in the wrong resolution (e.g. QUICKST - color version - run
- on with a monochrome monitor).
-
- Some quick suggestions to determine an offending program:
-
- 1. Try to boot up without a diskette. If the GEM desktop comes up, you've
- got a problem with one of the AUTO programs and/or desk accessories.
- If you still have the reset problem, it's hardware related.
-
- 2. If GEM boots up in (1), place the diskette with your AUTO folder into the
- disk drive and do the following:
-
- a. Rename every file in the AUTO folder to xxxx.PRX
-
- (example, rename FOLD100.PRG to FOLD100.PRX)
-
- b. Rename very accessory in the root directory to xxx.ACX
-
- c. Rename =one= AUTO program normally
-
- d. Shut off your ST, wait for about 20 seconds and then turn it on.
-
- e. If the system does not reset repeatedly, rename =one more= AUTO
- program normally and repeat (d). Do this until all AUTO programs
- have their normal names OR until your ST constantly reboots. The
- last program you renamed is causing the problem. Reboot without a
- diskette, insert the boot disk and remove/replace the offending
- file.
-
- f. Test again until all AUTO programs and desk accessories are
- normally named and the reset problem does not reoccur.
