  12. The 14.4K bps modems really talk to your cpu at 19200 bps. Through the
  13. magic of data compression (v.32/42), mnp, and all that, the real
  14. throughput of the modem is someplace between 14.4k bps and 19.2k bps.
  15. There's buffers and flow control stuff built into the modem. Just
  16. about any terminal program will work at 19.2k bps.

  18. However, the more important question than which terminal program
  19. is the problem of flow control. The flow control in most, if not
  20. all, versions of TOS is broken, and you'll have problems with
  21. receiving data fast unless you use one of the patches like
  22. serialfx to correct the problem.
