- Although I would like to see Atari succeed, and I do think that they
- should do a bit more advertising, this is _not_ the answer. For one thing,
- if Atari wants to make money, _Atari_ should be doing the advertising.
- I'm not going to run thier business unless I'm on the payroll.
-
- Another thing is that one ad will not do that much. It's true that a small
- sum from each Atari user on csas would pay for a small ad in some magazine,
- but it would require many of these ads to have a meaningful effect. Even the
- staunchest of Atari supporters would tire of donating money to Atari every
- month.
-
- Finally, what would I get out of my donation? If Atari went belly up
- tommorow, I would still have my STe, my software, a community of users
- here to converse with, and even a bit of a market should I decide to write
- commercial software. If I gave money to Atari, and the advertising did
- actually succeed, I would still have my STe, my software, a slightly larger
- community of users here to converse with, and a slightly larger bit of a
- market should I decide to write commercial software. And some users wouldn't
- even get that much out of it. Given the possibilities, it's probably not
- worth the money.
