- Actually, I saw an ad in MacWorld (August) for a SupraV.32bis (a
- 14.4kbps modem w/v.42bis etc.) for $295! What a deal - and it's less than
- what I have seen for some 9600bps modems. I don't know if it supports MNP5
- though (which is of course what my University's dialups use - sigh).

- Don't worry about it. If the modem supports the V.42bis protocol,
- then it will be able to handle a minimum of 57.6kbps - and just about anything
- slower - because of the compression gains. If it supports MNP5, it will be
- able to handle _at least_ 28.8kbps for the same reason. You don't have to
- worry about anything beyond what speed is acceptable between modem and computer
- because the modem will regulate what it does to connect to the other modem.
- So just go ahead and lock it into 19.2kbps (or higher if you can) and even if
- the modem has to step down to 1200bps, don't worry about it - the buffer in
- the modem will handle everything (the modems may communicate with each other
- at 1200bps, but the modem-computer link will work in bursts of 19.2kbps or
- whatever you set it to). As such, _all_ of the programs you listed should
- work. Just make sure they support RTS/CTS and that you install a CTS fix
- program if you have a TOS before 3/2.06 (although, I think TOS 1.2 may not
- need it - install the fix anyway as most should tell you if it is unnecessary
- or not).

- What about Uniterm - great vt52->vt200 emulation! Maxs out at 19.2k
- though.
