- Since this is the 'techie' newsgroup, I wonder if you can help me with a _very_
- strange hardware problem I've been having.
-
- My three year old STFM has had problems with the power switch freezing up
- before, so I had started powering it up at the mains. Recently, though, a more
- sinister problem has been happening. The computer is simply switching itself
- off, at varying intervals. Sometimes it can be after three minutes, sometimes
- after three hours!
-
- It isn't a loose wire, since it can happen without it being touched. Since the
- machine is well out of warranty I opened it up last month to have a look. The
- PSU board looked pretty complicated, so I left it well alone. And funnily
- enough, the machine worked fine - for about a week.
-
- Now its up to its old tricks. I've seen adverts with new PSU boards costing
- over 50 pounds - which I wouldn't consider investing in a machine which I'm
- going to replace in the pretty near future.
-
- So, is there a quick fix for this problem. Or do I need a new PSU?
-
- Could you send replies by mail as well - since I only get in once a week, and
- they've usually cropped the messages by the time I read them.
-
- Thanks in advance.

- PS. This is a UK market, 240 volt ST.
