- The Spectre GCR cartridge contains some simple hardware to allow ST drives
- to read MAC floppies directly. The basic ST drive cannot read MAC format
- directly (software only) as far as I know. This is one of the major
- differences between Spectre GCR and the previous Spectre 128, which could
- not read MAC format.
-
- Darek Mihocka has informed me in email that the Gemulator board will
- support reading MAC disks, but using different techniques. He claimed
- that IBM drives can read MAC disks directly (software only required).
- This is news to me, since I thought there wasn't much difference between
- ST floppies and IBM floppies, but that's what he said, and that there
- are several IBM programs that let you read MAC floppies. I guess we
- will have to see what happens when Gemulator is released, which is
- apparently soon.
