- Well I've posted some inquiries to GEnie and CompuServe with some
- scattered responses, so I'll try here:
-
- Would many of you loyal Atari 8-bit users here want to be able to
- send/receive faxes from your 8-bit? I've collected some info about
- the subject, and talked to a few technical guys, and it appears to
- be possible to interface one of the new fax/modems to the 8-bit (using
- an 850, P:R:Connection, Black Box, MIO, etc.). You would of course
- have to obtain a fax/modem (I've seen them as low as $75 recently).
-
- Writing the software and doing the testing is a lengthy effort, so I
- don't want to consider it without some positive feedback on the subject.
- I would propose creating the fax offline, with (among other things)
- an editor, maybe using Daisy Dot III to format nicely, and possibly
- importing images (graphics 8, 9, or 15, or scanned images in TIFF).
- The send program would read your created fax from disk, and send it
- out to a fax or fax/modem. The receive program would most likely go
- directly to disk, allowing you to view the fax offline, or maybe print
- it on your dot matrix printer offline. Those of you familiar with my
- APACVIEW and other graphics programs will realize how slow the old 6502
- is at interpreting GIF images, so expect similar speed here (1-3 minutes
- to display a reduced resolution image).
-
- I don't expect to get to a project like this right away, but I thought
- this might spawn some worthwhile discussion...
