- Well, the ol' Alchemist brought up an interesting point (about the spare
- Tandon mechanisms - I gather that most/all 1050's use these, i.e. if one
- has a spare mech from American Tech.-V. for a 1050, it's a Tandon?). Our
- (SCAT's) 8-bit librarian bought one of those mechs, and put it in, and her
- previously dead 1050 worked for a short (?) time, but then stopped working
- (dead, as I understand it). I paid her a visit to drop off a submission
- (to the library), and we took the 1050 apart, and I poked at the chips (but
- didn't reseat them because I didn't know how to remove the board; but I
- noticed that one or two connectors seemed loose. I pushed it/them back in
- tighter, and we tried the 1050 with half the case on (as I recall) - and
- it worked. But when we put the whole thing together, it died again.
- Now, her husband won't let her sink any more $$ into 8-bit eqpt repairs
- (they are going to get her a PC- compatible :-/). Any suggestions for
- fixing this thing for (almost) free? That is, is there anything a
- non-electronics-tech (I'm really a s/w person) can do to fix this?
-
- Thanks for any help,
-
