- Here's a repleat repeat of the READ.ME from NoiseTracker Vamps #2: Jukebox.
- Could be a big project. Read carefully. (Some techie stuff on psychoacousitcs
- too).
-

-
- Here's Dr. Tom's READ.ME file from NoiseTracker 1.0 Vamps
- Jukebox Disk #2. Some psychoacoustics techie stuff, as well
- as a * ahem * CALL FOR PROGRAMMERS. Read on. I'm posting
- the disk on c.b.a2.
-
- -----
-
- For those of you using an Apple IIgs and the program
- NOISETRACKER v 1.0, we have added a new feature peeked,
- poked and called: VAMPS NOISETRACKER MODULES Magik Memory
- Looper Automatic JukeBox.
-
- This feature is a basic program that is named startup on
- this disk. It loads other specially designed files that are
- required for use with the basic startup program, including
- all NOISETRACKER VAMPS music modules and then plays
- NOISETRACKER VAMPS v1.0, Music Module files, one after the
- other. The number of modules that can be loaded and played,
- is limited only by the amount of RAM memory your IIgs has to
- work with. This disk and the files/program are FREEWARE.
- You can use any portion of this disk for any purpose you
- wish.
-
- To change the music modules that are loaded and played, you
- can load and list the startup program, then change the
- program REM line data information, at the end of the
- program, containing the list of VAMPS NOISETRACKER music
- modules, A thru F. This disk requires at least 756K of RAM
- to load and play the 6 songs on the disk.
-
- *** -> WARNING <-***
-
- This VAMPS DEMO DISK #2, was designed for use as a P8 (800K)
- self-booting disk. It is not compatable with GS/OS. If you
- attempt to launch this disk via any GS/OS system disk, it
- will lock up.
-
- I realized rather early in my VAMPS music work, with
- NoiseTracker v1.0, that some of the VAMPS music and wave
- files were too large to be compatible with the animation
- routine during the INTROMUSIC routine. The larger, more
- complex VAMPS MUSIC would sound like a warped CD, because
- the INT & MEMORY MGR's, created a conflict.
-
- I wanted to see a method devised that would allow me to save
- my finished VAMPS music via NoiseTracker v1.0, as a module
- file and retain the VAMPS encoding, that gave the
- Psychoacoustic and 3-D (| Virtual Audio - Vortex |) 360
- degree Global Stereo sound localization/spatial enhancement
- binaural/transaural effects. I also wanted to enhance the
- sounds to near-coincident pairs, giving a good Blumlein
- style imaging without excessive low frequency phase
- differences. The music on this disk also exhibits an
- element of precedence effect and introduces a degree of
- decorrelation between the channels which is good for the
- subjective quantity of spaciousness. A new enhancement has
- also been added to simulate the illusion of near-perfect
- pinna effects and sound shadowing effects, which are
- responsible for accurate front-back and vertical perception.
-
- (NOTES OF INTEREST)
-
- Psychoacoustic research has determined that the localization
- of sound is based upon four primary phenomena. (1)
- Interaural Time Difference or the differences in a sounds's
- arrival time between the listeners ears, (2) Interaural
- Intensity Difference or the differences in a sound's volume
- between the ears, (3) Pinna Effects which result from phase
- shifts and timbral changes caused by reflections in the
- outer ear and (4) Shadowing of the head. This phenomenon is
- dependent upon where a sound emanates from around the
- listener and its differing path lengths to the two ears via
- the head and shoulders which results in perceived volume and
- arrival time differences. In addition, the listener's outer
- ears and head will cause different reflections, refraction
- and absorption effects to occur in relation to the sounds's
- spectral content and angle of incidence. I have attempted
- to instill all of these effects in the music, presented on
- this disk.
-
- I wrote to the author of NoiseTracker, Olivier Goguel,
- asking him if he knew of any way to design a VAMPS DEMO disk
- that would allow me to retain the VAMPS encoding in
- NoiseTracker Module files and play them all together, (one
- after the other). He was very helpful in assisting me with
- these needs. These new functions are on this VAMPS DEMO
- DISK #2.
-
- Now you have the VAMPS encoding retained in all the
- NoiseTracker v1.0 music modules
- and can now use VAMPS music modules in your own programs.
- The VAMPS NOISETRACKER MODULE Magik Memory Looper Automatic
- JukeBox, will do a (Virtual) MEMORY LOAD and LOOPER of all
- the music module files, playing them in full 360 degree
- Global Stereo, with all of their VAMPS encoded effects, one
- after the other. If you get tired of listening to one, just
- press any keyboard letter, the return key, spacebar, etc.
- and the next music module will start playing.
-
- I have 6 VAMPS (encoded) MUSIC MODULE files on this VAMPS
- DEMO disk, set to load and play starting with the module
- file named A, and progressing thru to F. The music stops
- after the ending of the last song and you can start up the
- first song again after the last one ends, by pressing the
- spacebar (twice). If you press the spacebar only 1 time,
- it will start the last song that was played again. Pressing
- the spacebar or any other key (3 times) will progress the
- Jukebox to the second music mudule song, (B) etc. and so on.
-
- I talked with Olivier Goguel at length last week and asked
- him if he was going to do any update to NoiseTracker v1.0.
- He told me he was not going to do any more updates.
- I asked him if I could undertake the project to make updates
- of NoiseTracker and he said "YES", so (IF I CAN GET A
- PROGRAMMING AND DEVELOPMENT TEAM TOGETHER), you can all look
- forward to a new release of NoiseTracker GS v2.0, from me
- sometime around Christmas of this year. I plan to make some
- extensive improvements and hope to redesign the program as a
- GS/OS application program, which will be fully compatable
- with the 6.0 system. Some of the projected enhancements
- will include the abilities to load and play music in the
- following music file formats; synthLAB, Music Studio and
- Diversitune, plus several others, assuming that no conflicts
- arise. I'm also planning to develop an NDA to play all of
- these formats as well as all of the current music file
- formats that NoiseTracker v1.0 can load and play.
-
- I would like to solicit help on this NoiseTracker update
- project. I'm not a programmer, just a sound engineer and I
- need to get some good people together with me to help
- develop an update for NoiseTracker. Any programmers that
- are real good in the language of C,and/or assembly, having a
- good knowledge of the use of MERLIN 16 PLUS, please contact
- me, if you would like to join the development team for this
- project. I need to get a team of programmers and developers
- together, as soon as possible, to get the redesigned update
- developed by Christmas, so I can give all the IIgs users a
- real good Christmas present (FREEWARE) program, to dazzle
- their ears with ! If anybody is interested in joining the
- VAMPS/NOISETRACKER UPDATE team, please contact me at the
- address or phone number noted below.
-
- I've got around 40 more finished VAMPS music files and will
- be releasing VAMPS DEMO DISKS every month, with new VAMPS
- music.
-
- This disk is: VAMPS DEMO # 2. If you don't have the VAMPS
- DEMO # 1 disk, you can download it from America-on-line, or
- several other popular BBS's, around the country. The VAMPS
- DEMO DISK # 1 has a complete set of text files that give a
- full review of what VAMPS are all about, and tells you what
- the effects are, how they were developed and how you can use
- them to create your own customized VAMPS music and
- sound/samples.
-
- The next VAMPS DEMO DISK (#3), which will be released in
- late July or early August, will have an extensive and
- comprehensive text file report on VAMPS 3-D MUSIC (Virtual
- Audio Research Technology & Psychoacoustics).
-
- Enjoy the MUSIC and let the MUSIC enjoy you !
-
- I look forward to your reply and comments. I also welcome
- any new music programs, music files or sound/sample files
- you would like to submit for my review and/or use.
