- I've used before Music Writer (6 staves edition, the middle one) and I
- won't exactly say it's the kind of program I feel comfortable with.
- Firstly, the version I used came with System 4.0 so although you can run
- it off a System 6.0 finder, it won't take advantage of System 6.0
- stuffs. And speed is definitely slow. It runs fine under Zip 9 Mhz but
- crawls at 2.8 Mhz. The program supports MIDI playback and Ensoniq
- playback but I recommend that you use an external synthesizer for MIDI
- playback 'coz the program only offers 16 preset Ensoniq sounds which are
- very thin and soft.
-
- The power of Music Writer is of course the notational features. It has
- practically everything I could need to score a music piece. The
- printout on my ImageWriter II is superb; even my 486 Clone friend was
- gaping at the printout. Basically Music Writer does what it advertises
- except that it doesn't do it in the most efficient way.
-
- Also, I forgot to mention earlier, the version I had couldn't input
- lyrics although the manual said so. Any attempt to input lyrics on the
- score will corrupt EVERYTHING! So be warned! I don't know if Pyware
- has an upgraded version of Music Writer so you'll have to check that out
- yourself. But all I can say is that if you're willing to bear with the
- inconvenience, the program does work!
