- The recent posts about the possibility of Apple releasing an ms-dos
- fst has made me think of another possible way to read ms-dos disks
- on an Apple.
-
- There are programs in the MS-DOS world that allow one computer to
- access the drives of another as more logical drives, thru a serial
- cable. The program I have experience with is FastLynx Expansion Box.
-
- The host machine runs one version of the program in the background,
- and the server runs another in the foreground. If my laptop is the
- host, and has A and C drives, it sees the 3 drives in the server as
- D, E, and F. Access takes a little longer over the serial link, but
- it's still pretty fast.
-
- Could the same thing be done with a GS as the host and a pc as the
- server? All the operating system drivers are there, as is the hardware.
-
- Seems like a little programming for each machine, and a serial cable, and
- there you go.
-
- (I know about Crossworks, and I use it. This would be easier and more
- transparent.)
