  11. While you may have ProTERM telling the computer's port to talk to your
  12. V.32bis 14.4Kbps modem at 38,400bps, when your modem connects with another
  13. one just like it, the connection speed is still 14.4Kbps.  The only way you
  14. can break that bottleneck is by getting good data compression.  It's
  15. probably highly unlikely that you'd get anywhere close to the 3840cps
  16. point.  That would be about 200% efficiency, though 150% is the best I've
  17. seen on a plain V.32/V.42bis modem.
