- I'm torqued! I bought the game Nine Princes in Amber by Telarium Corp.
- from Seenu Hariprasad, and they just arrived yesterday. I've been trying
- to get a good copy of them, but none of my copies will boot. So out of
- frustration I tried booting the originals. *NOTHING!* Copy II Plus
- won't let me change the boot program, saying there isn't one. Hmmmm...
-
- I strongly doubt they were like this when Seenu sent them to me, so I
- have to wonder at the possibilities:
-
- 1) the copy protection doesn't like my smartport, or the four drives chained
- to it. That's a possibility.
-
- 2) the DOS that it uses doesn't like the above.
-
- 3) US Snail hosed my disks somehow.
-
- Each of these leaves me with two choices. Since it's a legit, original
- version of the game, I could bitch to Telarium Corp. Does anybody know
- if they're still around? The game is copyright 1985, so they could have
- dropped off the map by now. I could also hire some cracker-type to make
- it work, send him the originals, and just run from my new "cracked" copies.
- I do know nothing I've done has managed to work so far, and I'm annoyed
- enough to try practically anything now, legal or not.
-
- Don't get the idea I'm blaming Seenu -- I mention him just so you know
- that I bought them legally from a reputable person on comp.sys.apple2; I
- have no reason to suspect the game was anything but playable when it left
- his hands. My copy attempts couldn't have over-written something since
- the originals have no write-protect tabs, and I've never installed the
- override switch on either of my drives.
-
- Any hints, suggestions, or volunteers are welcome. I'm out of my league
- when it comes to this sort of stuff -- I administer networks and do
- database programming, not crack copy protection.
