- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
-
- MDG ANNOUNCES PROFESSIONAL APPLESOFT DEBUGGER
-
- SAN DIEGO, California--July 23, 1992--The Morgan Davis Group today announced
- ADE, Applesoft Debugging Environment, a full-featured development tool for
- Applesoft BASIC programmers. ADE allows programmers to test programs by
- easily isolating errors in real-time without disturbing the program's
- environment. Said Morgan Davis, company president, "This unique product
- completes our extensive line of BASIC development tools. Our other products
- help you to write and design better programs, or offer extensions to BASIC
- to make it faster and more versatile. Now, with ADE, any programmer can
- quickly and easily debug programs with unprecedented power and flexibility."
-
- ADE offers many professional features:
-
- o Low Profile / High Transparency. ADE resides in the auxiliary
- memory bank, unused by Applesoft. It requires only 512 bytes of main
- memory and is virtually invisible to programs and other utilities. When
- ADE is enabled, it does not disturb the screen--it uses its own 80-column
- display and restores the original screen when done. The programmer can
- view the original display from within ADE by using the Display command.
-
- o Manual and Automatic Breakpoint Entry. While a program is running,
- the programmer can press Command-Control-Delete to freeze the
- program and access ADE's debugging mode. ADE can be programmed to
- activate itself by setting breakpoints (locations in the program)
- which, when reached by Applesoft at runtime, cause ADE to enter
- debugging mode automatically.
-
- o Stepping. Programmers can step through program statements, one
- at a time, to monitor program flow. This allows programmers to see how
- a program changes its environment--the display, variables, etc.--as it
- happens.
-
- o Watch Variables. Variables can be monitored by instructing ADE
- to "watch" them while a program runs. Each time the debugger is
- entered, ADE displays the variables being watched and their values. The
- value of any variable can be displayed by using the Variable Show
- command. In fact, ADE can list all the variables currently in use.
-
- o Modify Variables. Variables can be modified while a program is
- running. For example, the programmer may decide that the variable N
- should contain the value 10 instead of 5 at a particular point in the
- program.
-
- o Debugging History. ADE records all debugging operations into
- its 64K history buffer. Using the arrow keys, the programmer can
- scroll back through the history to view previous program states,
- variables, statement flow, etc. The history can be saved to a standard
- text file for printing or reference.
-
- o Environment Files. The programmer can save the debugging
- environment (breakpoints, watch variables, history, etc.) to a file on
- disk. The environment can be restored for use in subsequent sessions
- without having to enter all the debugger settings.
-
- o Program Listings. Using the List command, ADE can display one
- or more program lines, even while the program is running. The current
- program statement is highlighted when shown.
-
- o Online Help. Extensive built-in documentation is provided for
- immediate assistance with all functions. ADE's Help command obtains
- information specific to a particular command, showing its syntax,
- parameters, and a description.
-
-
- Requirements
-
- ADE Version 1.0 requires an Apple IIGS and BASIC.System. (An Apple IIe
- version may be available in the future.)
-
-
- Pricing and Availability
