  18.   The CDTV is an Amiga - If you wanted to use is 'As a CDROM drive' you would
  19. need to somehow network those two Amiga's together.  Obviously, the
  20. cheap 'Parnet' option is quite slow, and there aren't any
  21. network cards, or even a SCSI adaptor for the CDTV available.

  23.   I myself bought the CDTV with the plan of writing software for it,
  24. and using it as a CDROM/etc/etc style machine.

  26.   The first stumbling block is that CDTV documentation is only available
  27. to certified ($$$) developers.  I've never been able to get the slightest
  28. bit of documentation on the CDTV.

  30.   Secondly, the built-in software is quite poor.  The CD filesystem will crash
  31. under many different disks - There was a CDROM of ab20.larc.nasa.gov made
  32. up a while ago, and the CDTV supposedly just locks up with it in the drive.

  34.   As a CD player, it's poor.  The Remote control and front panel controls
  35. don't do the same thing, you get locked out while playing certain disks.
  36. The 'Track' digit readout doesn't show if you start the player with the 
  37. remote, but it does when you hit the front panel.  In general, it gives you
  38. a very poor/cheesy feeling while using it, and I'm embarrased to
  39. 'demo' it to friends, so I don't bother any more.

  41.   Even though CBM has told me that updates to the ROM are not currently 
  42. available, I might wait a bit longer.  If things don't improve in the
  43. documentation/built-in software department, I'll likely be selling mine
  44. off fairly soon to buy a CDROM drive itself.
