- Hurray Hurray!! I've been using the dvorak keymap for over a year also
- and like it much better than qwerty. Even if QED didn't use the system
- keymap (which it does) you could use QED's keymapping facility to make
- your own custom keymap (dvorak or otherwise)! I also have my unix
- account set up to use the dvorak keymap (that I had to define) when
- I logon to the sparcstations at school -- I used Xmodmap (X windows
- command). The two system at school I've had problems with have been
- PC clowns (expected) and Macs. I was very suprised that in my 2 year
- tenure at University California Santa Cruz I was unable to find anyone
- Mac guru or otherwise, who was able to show me how to change
- the system keymap on a Mac!!! I find it hard to believe that
- a resonably modern OS (well it a lot better than MS-loss) wouldn't
- support changing the system keymap!!
-
- What inspired my to learn the Dvorak keymap was _Mavis Beacon Teaches
- Typing_ for the amiga. This excellent (although unsupported) piece
- of software will teach typing with either the QWERTY or Dvorak keymap.
- This software has some bugs and when I called the *Software Toolworks*
- the *essentially* said "So? The amiga ain't worth supporting ..."
-
- On another note; I noticed someone saying that CED didn't support
- the clipboard. Well QED gives you a dozen (seemingly) different
- flavors of clipboard support (It had better support the clipboard
- since its author programs for C= :^) .
-
- Well after my little Dvorak tirade I guess I'd better modify the
- subject heading of this post ...
