- I need some advice on getting a CDROM player for my Amiga 2000.
-
- I am mainly interested in being able to access Public Domain software
- disks for a variety of platforms(amiga, IBM, Mac), namely the
- fred fish collection as well as other collections for other machines.
-
- I saw an ad in the back of an Amiga World talking about some driver
- software that would allow a standard CDROM drive to access a variety
- of formats including CDTV, Mac, and some others.
-
- so my question is: Is there a "standard" CDROM drive? If I just go
- out and buy a SCSI NEC, Toshiba, etc... is this driver software going
- to let me access what I need it to? The only CDROM drive that I have
- ever seen advertised in Amiga World is the Xetec. Can anyone tell me
- about this one? It seems to be overpriced comapred to SCSI drives
- from Sony, NEC, etc...
-
- Also, I know CDROM drives are quite slow, but what is considered
- 'too slow' for this type of drive? Is 200miliseconds average, faster
- than average, or what? If I buy a 400milisecond drive am I going
- to be disapointed? I would strictly be using the drive to retrieve
- PD software from, possibly on a BBS, and I "might" want to access a
- CDTV title or two.
-
- Any help you can give me what-so-ever would really be appreciated,
- either from personal experience or reading, etc...
-
- Thanks
