- Ok, I should correct myself I suppose. What I was trying to say (and obviously
- didn't say properly) was that the PP&S has a clock crystal on it that totally
- replaces the system crystal. With the GVP board I don't believe it's possible
- to run in the syncronous mode if you have a 16mhz A3000. When I installed the
- GVP card I didn't have to change any jumpers on the motherboard, the system
- was still clocked using the motherboard clock. (16 mhz or 25 mhz) Again using
- the example of the 16mhz 3000, using the GVP I think you'd have to use the
- ASync mode (or possibly have a 16mhz 040?), as the motherboard is still using
- the original clock rate. With the PP&S card I had to change a jumper (it's a
- three position jumper, 16mhz,25mhz,external and depending on the setting the
- system either runs at 16mhz, or 25mhz, or uses an external clock. The PP&S
- supplies the external clock (at 25mhz), and the system runs syncronously with
- that clock. This works great if you have a 25mhz A3000, you can switch back
- and forth between 030 & 040 at will (with a reboot). If the machine is a 16mhz
- A3000 it'll only be usable with the 040, as the slower A3000 comes with a
- 16mhz 030 chip that wouldn't be able to handle the 25mhz of the PP&S clock.
